Church, Sydney
This Sydney project involved the comprehensive renovation of a heritage-listed property. This was a sympathetic overhaul, with great deference shown to the original home and as a result, the team shied away from a "modern box"-style addition. As a result, the interiors were approached as a homage to the home's majestic period qualities and a classic and timeless design was developed. As in so many of our projects, colour played a major role in the overall concept as well as the inclusion of vintage pieces and bespoke furniture elements. We used many revived, classical fabrics from the Designers Guild Royal Collection and an over-the-top design aesthetic was embraced. In the dining room we set the collection of family antiques and period French furniture pieces against a backdrop of Tiffany blue hue.
The use of unexpected high chroma colour was intentional, breaking up the weight of the period elements and ensuring that the overall effect felt in no way forced or staid. The kitchen was all about the details. A chandelier and wall sconces from The Country Trader set the tone for the space, which benefits from 13ft ceilings and abundant natural light. Hammered copper sinks and copper taps and accessories added an unexpected mix to the space.
